Terms of Service for Jublu
Agreement to terms
Welcome to Jublu! By downloading, installing, or using the Jublu mobile application ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App.

1. Description of service
1.1 What Jublu does
Jublu is a comprehensive digital wellness and app blocking application designed to help you:
- Block distracting apps during focus sessions with real-time interception
- Block notifications from distracting apps and store them for later review
- Monitor app usage to understand your digital habits with detailed analytics
- Create blocking groups for different scenarios (work, study, sleep, etc.)
- Track blocking sessions with comprehensive session details and insights
- View usage statistics including screen time, app opens, and time-of-day patterns
- Build healthier digital habits through scheduled blocking and insights
- Access AI-powered recommendations for optimal blocking strategies (future feature)
1.2 How Jublu works
Jublu uses Android's Accessibility Service to monitor which app is in the foreground and redirect you away from blocked apps. The Notification Listener Service intercepts notifications from blocked apps and stores them locally for your review. All data is stored locally on your device. The App does not require an account or internet connection to function (except for optional analytics).
2. User requirements
2.1 Eligibility
- You must be at least 13 years of age to use Jublu
- Users under 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian to use the App
- You must have a compatible Android device (Android 7.0 / API 24 or higher)
- You must be able to grant required Android permissions for core functionality
2.2 Account requirements
Jublu does not require user accounts or registration. The App works entirely on your device without authentication.
3. Required permissions
3.1 Permissions you must grant
To use Jublu, you must grant the following Android permissions:
a. Accessibility service (required for app blocking)
- Purpose: To monitor foreground apps and block access to apps on your blocking list
- What it does: Detects when you open a blocked app and redirects you to a blocking screen with motivational content
- How it works: Shows progressive conversations that adapt based on your blocking patterns
- Requirement: You must grant this permission for app blocking to work
- Monitoring: This permission is checked every 6 hours to ensure blocking remains active
b. Usage stats access (required for insights)
- Purpose: To display app usage statistics, insights, and session details
- What it does: Reads time spent in each app to show you analytics and generate daily summaries
- How it works: Processes usage data daily to provide:
- Total screen time per app
- App open counts and session durations
- Hourly usage patterns
- Focus effectiveness metrics
- Requirement: Required to view usage statistics and session insights
c. Notification listener (optional, per group)
- Purpose: To block notifications from apps during blocking sessions
- What it does:
- Intercepts notifications from blocked apps
- Stores notification content locally for 30 days
- Preserves deep links for later access
- Detects spam patterns (>50 notifications/day)
- Requirement: Optional - you can use Jublu without this permission, but notifications will not be blocked
- Per-group control: You can enable/disable notification blocking for each blocking group individually
3.2 Your responsibilities
By granting these permissions, you acknowledge that:
- You understand why each permission is needed and how it's used
- You grant these permissions voluntarily to use the App's features
- You can revoke permissions at any time in Android Settings (though the App may not function properly without required permissions)
- You have read and understood our Privacy Policy regarding how these permissions are used
- The App will notify you within 6 hours if required permissions are revoked
- You can check permission status anytime in Profile > Permissions
4. Acceptable use
4.1 What you may do
You may use Jublu to:
- ✅ Block apps on your own device to improve focus and productivity
- ✅ Monitor your own app usage to understand your digital habits
- ✅ Create and customize blocking groups and schedules
- ✅ Use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes
- ✅ Review blocked notifications and session insights
- ✅ Use AI recommendations to improve your blocking strategies (when available)
4.2 What you may not do
You may not:
- ❌ Use Jublu to monitor or control devices owned by others without their explicit consent
- ❌ Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- ❌ Use Jublu to circumvent parental controls or device management systems
- ❌ Remove, modify, or obscure any copyright or proprietary notices in the App
- ❌ Use the App for any illegal, harmful, or malicious purposes
- ❌ Attempt to bypass or disable the app blocking functionality through technical means (violates lock-in rules)
- ❌ Use automated means (bots, scripts) to interact with the App
- ❌ Resell, redistribute, or create derivative works from the App
- ❌ Abuse the notification blocking feature to intercept sensitive communications
- ❌ Use the App in a manner that violates any applicable laws or regulations
5. Data collection & analytics
5.1 Local data storage
By using Jublu, you acknowledge that the App stores data locally on your device, including:
- Blocking groups, schedules, and app lists
- Notification history (30-day retention)
- Usage statistics and session details (90-day retention)
- Blocking attempt analytics (90-day retention)
Your Control: You can delete this data at any time via Android Settings > Apps > Jublu > Storage > Clear Data.
5.2 Anonymous analytics
By using Jublu, you consent to the collection of anonymous analytics data via Firebase Analytics, including:
- Screen views and feature usage
- App lifecycle events (opens, session duration)
- Onboarding flow progress
- Permission events (granted, denied, revoked)
- Group management events (created, edited, deleted)
- Blocking interactions (block triggered, dismissed)
Opt-Out: You can opt-out of analytics by contacting us at privacy@jublu.app. Future versions will include an in-app toggle.
Data Retention: Analytics data is retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted.
Privacy: No personally identifiable information, notification content, or specific app names are included in analytics.
5.3 Crash reporting
The App uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostic data to improve stability. This data is anonymous and does not include personal information.
5.4 AI features & data usage (future)
When AI features launch:
- On-Device Processing: AI recommendations are generated using locally-stored data
- Anonymized Upload: With your explicit opt-in, anonymized usage patterns may be uploaded to improve AI models
- Control: You can enable/disable AI features and data upload independently
- Transparency: You will be informed about exactly what data is used for AI processing
6. Disclaimer of warranties
6.1 "As is" basis
Jublu is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis, without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Warranties of merchantability
- Fitness for a particular purpose
- Non-infringement
- Accuracy, reliability, or completeness
- Uninterrupted or error-free operation
6.2 App blocking effectiveness
IMPORTANT: While Jublu is designed to help you reduce digital distractions, we do not guarantee that:
- The App will block 100% of access to apps in all situations
- Technical users cannot find ways to bypass app blocking
- The App will work perfectly on all Android devices and versions
- App blocking will solve underlying behavioral or psychological issues
- Notification blocking will capture 100% of notifications without any failures
- Deep links will always work after service restarts
- AI recommendations (when available) will be optimal for your needs
Jublu is a tool to assist you, not a replacement for self-discipline or professional help for addiction or mental health issues.
6.3 No guarantee of service
We do not guarantee that:
- The App will be available at all times without interruption
- The App will be free from bugs, errors, or security vulnerabilities
- Issues will be fixed within a specific timeframe
- The App will be compatible with future Android versions or devices
- Third-party services (Firebase) will always be available
6.4 Notification blocking limitations
You acknowledge that:
- Notification blocking relies on Android's Notification Listener Service API
- Android may restrict or change this API in future versions
- Some system notifications cannot be blocked (alarms, emergency alerts)
- Deep links may not work after the service is killed by the system
- We store notification content locally but cannot guarantee 100% preservation
6.5 Permission reliability
You acknowledge that:
- Android may revoke permissions automatically in some situations
- Background permission monitoring checks every 6 hours (not real-time)
- Device manufacturers may restrict background workers
- Battery optimization settings may interfere with monitoring
7. Limitation of liability
7.1 No liability for damages
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Jublu and its developers shall not be liable for any:
- Direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use or inability to use the App
- Loss of data, profits, or business opportunities
- Damages resulting from errors, bugs, or security vulnerabilities
- Harm resulting from improper use of the App
- Damages caused by third-party services (Firebase, etc.)
- Damages from missed notifications during blocking sessions
- Damages from lost notification deep links after service restarts
This includes damages resulting from:
- Inability to access blocked apps during emergencies
- Loss of important notifications from blocked apps
- Blocking sessions that prevent access to critical apps
- Any technical malfunction of the App or its services
- Failed notification interception or storage
- Analytics data collection or usage
- AI recommendation errors (when available)
7.2 Maximum liability
In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability, our total liability to you for any claims under these Terms shall not exceed $0 (zero), as the App is provided at no cost.
8. User responsibilities
8.1 Your device, your responsibility
You are responsible for:
- ✅ Emergency Access: Ensuring you can access emergency services (phone, messages, emergency contacts) even when blocking is active. Configure blocking groups carefully and do not block critical apps.
- ✅ Critical Apps: Not blocking apps you may need urgently (banking, health monitoring, emergency communication, work-critical apps)
- ✅ Device Security: Keeping your device secure with passwords/biometrics to prevent unauthorized changes to blocking settings
- ✅ Appropriate Use: Using the App responsibly, ethically, and in accordance with these Terms
- ✅ Backups: Backing up any important data on your device (Jublu data is local-only)
- ✅ Compliance: Using the App in compliance with local laws and regulations
- ✅ Notification Review: Regularly reviewing blocked notifications to ensure you don't miss important communications
- ✅ Permission Monitoring: Checking the permission status screen if blocking stops working
8.2 Parental/guardian use
If you are a parent or guardian using Jublu to help manage a child's device usage:
- You are responsible for obtaining the child's consent where legally required
- You must use the App transparently and explain its purpose to the child
- You acknowledge that Jublu is not a comprehensive parental control solution
- You understand the technical limitations of app blocking and notification interception
- You must ensure emergency access is always available
- You are responsible for reviewing the child's notification history appropriately
8.3 Lock-in compliance
You acknowledge and agree to the "Lock-In Rule":
- When you add apps to a group with a schedule, you cannot edit that group's schedule or remove apps until the blocking schedule has run at least once
- This rule is designed to prevent circumvention and ensure blocking effectiveness
- Attempting to bypass this rule through technical means violates these Terms
8.4 Data management responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Understanding data retention policies (30 days for notifications, 90 days for analytics)
- Exporting data before uninstalling if you want to preserve it
- Regularly clearing old data if storage space is a concern
- Understanding that local data is not backed up to the cloud
9. Third-party services
9.1 Firebase analytics & crashlytics
Jublu uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (provided by Google LLC) for:
- Anonymous usage analytics
- Crash reporting and bug fixes
Your use of these services is also governed by:
- Google's Terms of Service: https://policies.google.com/terms
- Firebase Privacy Policy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
9.2 No responsibility for third-party services
We are not responsible for:
- The availability, functionality, or practices of third-party services
- Changes to third-party services that affect Jublu's functionality
- Privacy practices of third-party services (review their privacy policies)
- Service outages or degradation of third-party services
10. Intellectual property
10.1 Ownership
All rights, title, and interest in Jublu, including:
- Source code, design, and user interface
- Trademarks, logos, and branding ("Jublu" name and logo)
- Documentation and content
- Algorithms, conversation messages, and AI models (when available)
- Data aggregation and analytics methodologies
are owned by Jublu and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
10.2 Limited license
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:
- Download and install Jublu on your personal Android device(s)
- Use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes
- Use the App in accordance with these Terms
This license does not give you any ownership rights in the App.
10.3 Restrictions
You may not:
- Copy, modify, or create derivative works based on the App
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Remove or modify any proprietary notices or labels
- Use the App's branding, logo, or trademarks without permission
- Extract or reuse any AI models, algorithms, or methodologies
11. Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy (available in the app and at this link) to understand:
- What data we collect (very minimal, mostly local)
- How we use your data (locally on your device)
- Your rights regarding your data (access, deletion, export)
- Data retention policies (30-90 days for different data types)
- Third-party data sharing (Firebase only)
By using Jublu, you also agree to our Privacy Policy.
Key Points:
- All personal data (notifications, usage stats, blocking history) stays on your device
- Anonymous analytics are optional and can be opted out
- You can export or delete all data at any time
- GDPR rights are fully supported for EU users
12. Termination
12.1 Your right to terminate
You may stop using Jublu at any time by:
- Uninstalling the App from your device (deletes all local data)
- Revoking permissions in Android Settings
Effect: Local data remains until you clear it via Android Settings.
12.2 Our right to terminate
We reserve the right to:
- Discontinue or suspend the App at any time with or without notice
- Refuse service to anyone for any reason
- Remove the App from the Google Play Store
- Disable specific features or functionality
Notice: For planned discontinuation, we will provide at least 30 days notice when reasonably possible.
12.3 Effect of termination
Upon termination:
- Your license to use Jublu ends immediately
- All data stored locally on your device remains until you delete it
- These Terms remain in effect for past use of the App
- You must stop using the App and may need to uninstall it
12.4 Survival
The following sections survive termination:
- Intellectual Property (Section 10)
- Limitation of Liability (Section 7)
- Disclaimer of Warranties (Section 6)
- Governing Law and Disputes (Section 13)
13. Updates and modifications
13.1 App updates
We may release updates to Jublu to:
- Fix bugs and improve performance
- Add new features
- Ensure compatibility with new Android versions
- Improve security and privacy
- Update analytics or crash reporting
You are responsible for keeping the App updated. Older versions may not function properly or may be deprecated.
13.2 Changes to these terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we do:
- We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top
- We may notify you through the App or app store listing
- Material changes will be communicated more prominently
- For significant changes, we may require you to accept new Terms to continue using the App
Your Rights: Your continued use of Jublu after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the App.
14. Governing law and disputes
14.1 Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict of law principles.
For users in other jurisdictions, local consumer protection laws may also apply and take precedence where mandatory.
14.2 Jurisdiction
Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Jublu shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where local consumer protection laws require otherwise.
14.3 Informal resolution
Before filing any formal dispute, please contact us at privacy@jublu.app to attempt to resolve the issue informally. We commit to responding within 14 business days and working in good faith to resolve disputes.
14.4 Arbitration (optional)
For disputes that cannot be resolved informally, both parties may agree to binding arbitration as an alternative to court proceedings. Arbitration details will be agreed upon by both parties.
15. General provisions
15.1 Entire agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Jublu regarding your use of the App. They supersede all prior agreements, understandings, or representations.
15.2 Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. The invalid provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable.
15.3 Waiver
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. Any waiver must be in writing and signed by us.
15.4 Assignment
You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your rights under them without our written consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction to any successor, affiliate, or acquirer.
15.5 No partnership
Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship between you and Jublu.
15.6 Force majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to:
- Acts of God, natural disasters
- War, terrorism, civil unrest
- Internet outages or infrastructure failures
- Government actions or regulations
- Pandemics or public health emergencies
- Third-party service failures (Firebase, etc.)
15.7 Language
These Terms are written in English. Translations may be provided for convenience, but the English version governs in case of conflict.
15.8 Notices
Official notices to you may be provided:
- Through the App (in-app notifications or banners)
- Through app store listing updates

16. Accessibility service specific terms
16.1 Proper use of accessibility features
By using Jublu's Accessibility Service functionality, you acknowledge and agree that:
- The Accessibility Service is used solely for app blocking and digital wellness purposes
- You understand that Accessibility Services are intended for users with disabilities, and Jublu uses this permission to assist users with self-control, focus, and digital wellness
- You will not attempt to use the Accessibility Service functionality to:
- Monitor, track, or spy on other users without their consent
- Collect sensitive data from other apps
- Interfere with the normal operation of other apps beyond blocking access as configured
- Access, read, or transmit data from other apps
- You grant this permission voluntarily and understand you can revoke it at any time
- You understand that revoking this permission will disable app blocking
16.2 Limitations of accessibility service
You acknowledge that:
- Android may restrict or change Accessibility Service APIs in future versions
- Device manufacturers may limit Accessibility Service functionality
- The Accessibility Service may not work on all devices or Android versions
- Google Play may require additional disclosure or remove apps using Accessibility Services
- We may need to adapt or replace the Accessibility Service implementation based on platform changes
16.3 Notification listener service terms
By enabling notification blocking, you acknowledge and agree that:
- The Notification Listener Service intercepts notifications only from apps you choose to block
- Notification content is stored locally on your device only
- Deep links are preserved in memory for 24 hours but may be lost after service restarts
- You are responsible for reviewing blocked notifications regularly
- We are not liable for missed notifications or lost deep links
- You can enable/disable notification blocking per blocking group
17. AI features terms (future)
When AI features are launched:
17.1 AI recommendations
- AI recommendations are provided "as-is" without guarantees of accuracy or effectiveness
- Recommendations are based on your usage patterns and anonymized aggregate data
- You are not required to follow AI recommendations
- We are not liable for outcomes resulting from following or ignoring recommendations
17.2 Data usage for AI
- AI features use your locally-stored usage data to generate recommendations
- With your opt-in, anonymized data may be uploaded to improve AI models
- You can opt-out of AI features and data upload at any time
- AI processing is subject to our Privacy Policy
17.3 AI limitations
- AI models may not work equally well for all users
- Recommendations may be less accurate for new users with limited data
- AI features require internet connectivity for some functionality

19. Acknowledgment

- ✅ You understand data retention policies and your responsibility to export data before uninstalling
- ✅ You agree to resolve disputes informally before pursuing legal action
